Healing the city
Professor of psychiatry at New York University, Spanish-born Luis Rojas Marcos has taken on a series of formidable challenges during his career in the United States. Over 35 years, including seven years as executive president of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, Dr Marcos has helped reshape the city’s public health policy, leading to greatly improved treatment of the urban homeless, the mentally ill and immigrants. A member of the 2006 Rolex Awards Selection Committee, he was interviewed by Alexa Schoof Marketos.
